With over 100 years of manufacturing excellence, Smalley is the Engineer's Choice® for supplying or designing the right retaining ring solution for all of your application needs.
Smalley has recently partnered with Beneri, the leading Italian circlip manufacturer since 1958, to bring you even more retaining ring solutions at the same quality you trust.
We now offer Tapered Section Retaining Rings (Circlips) from stock in addition to Spirolox and Constant Section Snap Rings.
*These products are only available for sale for United States-based customers
Tapered section retaining rings, also referred to as circlips, are retaining rings with a tapered radial wall. They are designed for high thrust loads and heavy-duty applications.
Tapered section retaining rings can be axially installed into a bore/shaft groove to safely secure assemblies in place. The tapered radial width decreases from the top to the free ends, ensuring nearly full contact with the groove when installed.
Beneri circlips are trusted all over the world in various applications such as:

RSHE (Imperial) and RSHD (Metric)
Axially assembled retaining rings for bores, designed to be installed into a housing groove.
The ring functions as a removable shoulder, safely securing the assembly.
RSSE (Imperial) and RSSD (Metric)
Axially assembled retaining rings for shafts, designed to be installed into a shaft groove.
The ring functions as a removable shoulder, safely securing the assembly.

Tapered section retaining rings (circlips) have lugs and lug holes that aid in installation and removal via retaining ring pliers. Ring expansion and contraction should be limited to avoid possible deformation caused by installation. See our Installation and Removal Guides below for more information.
FOR DIN-471
We recommend using pliers DIN 5254, which have stop and return screws to safely and gradually control ring expansion.
FOR DIN-472We recommend using pliers DIN 5256, which have stop and return screws to safely and gradually control ring contraction.
Use the Interchange Table below to identify the equivalent ring series.
