Laminar Sealing Retaining Rings
A Smalley Laminar Seal Retaining Ring is a metallic labyrinth seal consisting of multiple rings in a groove. This arrangement of the rings and the specific orientation of the rings are dictated by the application and the severity of the environment.
- Seals assembly components from contamination
- Numerous configurations available
- Produced from metal; not rubber, neoprene, or other non-metallic materials
- Able to withstand high temperatures and corrosive environments
Laminar Seal Retaining Rings Available From Stock
Standard parts from 5/8" to 50" and 15mm to 1,300mm. Special Seals manufactured with no-tooling-charges
Laminar Seal Retaining Ring Application Example
Laminar Configuration
YHDK Series, (2 double-turn snap rings cling in the housing & 1 double-turn snap ring clings to the shaft)
Application
Pulley Idler The retaining ring set designed in this application extends the life of the ball bearing by keeping contaminants from penetrating the precision bearing surfaces. When the shaft rotates only the groove ring rotates while the housing rings remain stationary.
Environment
High contamination; 450F maximum operating temperature; 1250 RPM maximum
