Welcome back to the Smalley Ask the Expert Blog. This week, our engineers answer questions about corrosion resistant plating and titanium retaining rings and wave springs.
Yes. Any coating like black oxide or zinc phosphate, or plating like zinc, cadmium or nickel that can be applied to steel can also be applied to our carbon steel rings. Certain ring types like multiple turn spirals can be difficult to achieve full plating coverage between the turns, so we also offer stainless steel alternatives if needed. Whether you need a coating, plating or stainless steel part, we will work with you to get you the part that will work best for your application.
Smalley has experience making parts out of titanium, especially for our customers in the medical and aerospace industries. It is a lightweight but soft material, so special design considerations need to be made to assure the retaining rings or wave springs made out titanium will function properly. Our engineers will work with you to make sure the titanium part will work in your application.
That’s all for this week, if you have any questions for our wave spring and retaining ring experts please submit them at www.smalley.com/ask-expert.
